Phantasialand (Part One)

Phantasialand is a theme park located 20 kilometers away from Cologne. It was a very special and fun day we spent there. From low-key attractions like the Hotel Tartüf to high-adrenalin rides like the Black Mamba, Phantasialand has it all. This here is part one of the many images taken on that day. Be sure to check out Black Mamba ride, Colorado ride, Hotel Tartüf on YouTube if you want to see what it was like on the rides.

Sights from the river Rhine

Cologne has enchanted us with its sights and views. These images were taken after the visit to the cathedral, on the Cologne Traingle, a sightseeing tower acrosss the river Reihn. The sun was just setting and the cityscapes were drowning in its orange glow.

The Rhine and the Danube formed most of the northern inland frontier of the Roman Empire and, since those days, the Rhine has been a vital and navigable waterway carrying trade and goods deep inland. The many castles and fortifications along the Rhine testify to its importance as a waterway in the Holy Roman Empire. In the modern era, it has become a symbol of German Romantic nationalism.

The Lower Rhine flows through North Rhine-Westphalia. Its banks are usually heavily populated and industrialized, in particular the agglomerations Cologne, Düsseldorf and Ruhr area. Here the Rhine flows through the largest conurbation in Germany, the Rhine-Ruhr region.

The Cologne Cathedral

One of the most memorable cultural sights in Cologne is the Cologne cathedral. Construction started in the 13th century and it took a couple of hundered years to fully complete the cathedral. It is truly a remarkable piece of arcitechture. The entrance is free and you can take photos. If you want to climb one of the two towers then you have to pay. We gladly payed and the sights from the ca. 300 m tall tower was breathtaking.

Modern Cologne

Here are some images of Modern Cologne. We visited Cologne in December of 2012. And while the main draw of the city is its old churches and Christmas Fairs, the modern part of the city can be entrancing aswell.
