Rural Views [Part 2/2]: The Path through the Woods

The afternoon was still relaxing after the rain as we made the entrance into the woods. A narrow path greeted us in the beginning and it was about to lead us all the way to the other side. It's not a very long walk, but the sights are plenty nevertheless.

The countryside here will change soon, since a big highway is about to be built in the near vicinity. I am not quite sure what will stay and what will go, but I will try to document the change through images once it happens.

This is a multi-part series:
Part One: A Family Outing
Part Two: The Path through the Woods

We stopped for some portraits. I love this little stone fence. On the other side of the fence there are many fruit trees and other walking paths.

On the opposite side of the fence you can peek through the trees and get a clear sight of the fields which we walked on in part one.

I like the little drops of water ready to fall off the fruit.

The others were catching up to us.

We finally made it out of the woods and back to the country road, that would take us back where we started this small adventure.

In the end Beni needed to be carried as well, since the long walk took most of his energy away.

These three shots of Merjem were taken in the garden of the old family house, where my father grew up in. She loves to pose for photos, and is a real character.

Beni cooled down. ;)

Thanks for visiting. I hope you enjoyed these rural views of the countryside of Bivolje Brdo.

Next up on this blog is a massive multi-part series from our vacation to Sibenik in Croatia. Part One will be up this Friday.

Visiting Sibenik [Part 1/9]: Morning in a Seaside Town

After two long weeks of editing I have finally sorted through the vacation images to Sibenik. Over the course of our stay I made more then 1000 images, which I edited down to about 350 to show in this series. It's a lot, and in order not to crowd each post with many images, I decided to divide the series into 9 parts. But believe me, there is still plenty to see in each post.

We have been to Sibenik three times before, but this was the first time with the Canon 6D, and some of the night photography we did turned out fantastic. I was finally able to do some really good interior shots in the dark hallways of the Fortress of St. Nikola (Part Seven), and also some colorful, fun and happy night and dusk shots in the Beach and Spa Resort Solaris, near Sibenik (Parts Four and Five).

For this first part I wanted to start of easy and relaxed. I will show you the small seatown Brodarica, where we mainly stayed. Sibenik as a city doesn't really have a beach where you can swim, and since we wanted to swim and relax on the beach, we booked our stay here, just like in the previous years.
This is a multi-part series. Other parts include:
Part One: Morning in a Seaside Town
Part Two: A night in the old town of Sibenik
Part Three: Stormy day on the Beach
Part Four: Dusk in the Solaris Beach Resort
Part Five: Night in the Solaris Beach Resort
Part Six: Stroll through the Sunset Forest
Part Seven: Inside the Fortress of St. Nicholas
Part Eight: Remnants of the Past
Part Nine: Golden Hour in the Bay

The morning started around 8:30 for me. After breakfast I grabbed my camera and made a stroll down the coastline of Brodarica. There were almost no other people on the beach, so I had the surroundings to myself.

A curious sight along the way. I wonder if perhaps the owner of this car, down below, parked it there at night. Otherwise a very risky move :)

I love to take a glimpse into boats and ships, and see how they work and are structured. In the bay of Brodarica you can find many small boats. In the next part you will see more luxurious yachts and ships in the bay of the old town of Sibenik.

The turquoise water called to me. In some parts, the water bed is white and clear. The water here is very clean, since big currants stream freely up here.

On the other side of the coast there is the island Krapanj. I didn't have a chance to visit it again this year, but if you like to see more of this island during sunset you can click here for our 2012 post and here for the 2013 post from this island.

I spotted this old boat docked in the harbor. Time had taken its toll on it, but it was interesting enough for me to take a closer look.

A brave swimmer under another docking post. :)

There are lots of rusty details dotted along the coastline, which I tried to pick up with the camera.

As the sun came up more, it was time to return to our apartment and get ready for a fun day on the beach.

End of Part One
To be continued.

Part Two will be up this Sunday.
In the second part we will visit the city of Sibenik, it's lovely streets and corners, cafes and restaurants as well as the wonderful walking lane along the bay.

And here are a couple of preview shots from the other parts that will follow in this series.

First up, it's me in a gellato store called "Grom" in the inner part of the old city of Sibenik. I am linking this image to City Daily Photo, with the theme "Take Away". Nothing better then Ice Cream to take away and enjoy! :)

Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy your weekend ahead.

Visiting Sibenik [Part 2/9]: A Night in the Old Town

In the second part of the new travel series I will show you the old town of Sibenik, it's historic center as well as the various paths and streets. The atmosphere in Sibenik is youthful and lively. Little streets lead to many squares where modern shop windows unite with the old architecture of the past centuries.

What I really like about the city is that everything is within walking distance. From bus station to the old city center it takes only five minutes to walk. You can get to all sights on foot, and the furthest are within half an hour walk. My sister and I made a nightly visit and I was able to get into the small streets and corners and capture the more intimate sights of the city.

This is a multi-part series. Other parts include:
Part One: Morning in a Seaside Town
Part Two: A night in the old town of Sibenik
Part Three: Stormy day on the Beach
Part Four: Dusk in the Solaris Beach Resort

We started our visit around 9 in the evening, the afterglow of the sun was still lingering in the sky, and gave some great color to the city and its surroundings. As we parked our car in the harbor parking lot, we started our trip, beginning with the walking lane along the sea.

Sibenik has a big harbor that is being constructed right now, and across the walking lane, only smaller ships and yachts are docket, which gives you a nice vantage point when shooting them.

One of those yachts was the "Blanca", a luxurious small cruiser that was awesomely lit, and made you daydream about going out to sea with it and exploring the nearby islands.

The city at night is always busy.

The Sibenik Museum shown in the picture below was founded in 1925 to celebreate the thousand year anniversary of the Kingdom of Croatia, and is located in the former Prince's Palace. It's a complex type of museum, and consists of archeological, cultural-historic and ethnographic departments.

These side streets offered up many great spots for portraits and some quiet, in the otherwise very busy city.

Then I saw these hanging doors right on the entrance to the old town center of Sibenik. Later I found out that these doors used to be functioning doors of the church behind them, but over time, as the city got reconstructed, they were literally left hanging in the air.

Next up; Left: My sister Jasmina, stopping to take a picture of me, taking a picture of her. Right: Her camera phone result :)

The restaurants in the inner city are always filled with tourists. The food can be on the pricey side with them, but we ate in one, and it was all very delicious.

Sometimes you just glance and walk past these views, but I really tried to take it all in. There are so many details and unique structures in these little narrow streets. I like all of the matching doors and windows.

End of Part Two
To be continued...

In the next part the weather started to shift slightly, and some dramatic and dark clouds rolled into the seascape. Even though we got restricted in swimming, we got some great seascapes, here is a preview shot and I will see you in the next part.
