Golden Hour in the Mountains

The days are getting warmer here and escaping the hot city, seems a more welcoming idea with each passing day. The local mountain slopes are always a fun place to be in and I actually never visited them during the golden hour.

I recently made the trip back up to shoot some more stills for my upcoming time lapse video, and in between the various time lapse set-ups I made these images. I also made some portraits and city shots which I will post at a later time.

Have a great Sunday and enjoy these images, of a day going to sleep.

Fresh Lemon Sorbet Recipe

Escaping the summer heat is no easy task, but this fresh lemon sorbet might just help. It's full of lemon flavor, including zest and juice. You only need three ingredients to make it!

This sorbet is very smooth and intense with lemon flavor. If you have organic lemons then you are already at an advantage. If you use regular ones, first clean the lemon rind under hot water, and then zest it.

The ingredients are:
450 ml (1-3/4 cup) water
300 gr (1-1/2 cup) sugar
450 ml
(1-3/4 cup) fresh lemon juice incl the zest of the lemons you use

Measure out your ingredients first.

I use the zest of all the lemons I need to come up with the amount of juice I need. If you find that too intense (and it sure is) you cut back on it.

Dissolve the sugar in the water, until the water is clear. No need to let it come to a boil, you just want it dissolved not a caramel.

Combine the zest, lemon juice and the warm sugar and water mixture.

Let it cool down. Refrigerate it over night (including the inside of your ice cream maker).

The next day, pour the mixture into your ice cream maker and freeze it according to manufacturers instructions.

Tip if you don't have an Ice Cream maker: If you don't have an Ice Cream Maker don't be alarmed. You can make this without one (even though It won't taste quite the same). The trick is, once you pour the mixture into the airtight container in the end, take it out of the freezer every 30 minutes for the next 5-6 hours and give it a good stir. That way you'll get rid of the ice crystals that stop the sorbet from being more slushy like.

After the ice cream maker churns the sorbet, put it into a air tight container and freeze more, since the consistency will be better then. This can take 1-2 hours.

Serve it up an enjoy!

I hope this recipe will help you in the coming summer months. Mostar is already very hot and we are looking for lots of ways to cool us down. Enjoy!

Dusk over the City

Lately it seems, that the only time suitable for going out in Mostar is at dusk, when the city calms down and the heat slightly fades. I took these city images recently, on another outing for my upcoming time lapse video.

The first image is actually a frame out of the time lapse sequence, so you will soon be able to see the cars moving and lights flickering.

Enjoy these and stay cool, wherever you are. :)

Portraits and Landscapes in the Sunset Hour

The sunset offers the best light for landscapes but portraits too. We went back to the local mountains above Mostar, and there I took these portraits and landscapes.

The sun was just escaping, but I think we still managed to get some of its heavy glow in the images. I hope you will enjoy them.

The World from Up, Straight and Below

This Friday we have a very special week over at "Friday My Town Shoot Out". The theme is a scavenger hunt in which you show your world looking up, facing straight and looking down. There is so much to see in the world. Little things that fly by, that are there in the corner, sometimes noticed, but more often overlooked.

I really wanted to use this theme and show some details and sights that in everyday life would probably go unnoticed.

If you like you can link up this week. The linky can be found here.

When I look up I see the deep dark blue of the sky. I see the white puffy clouds rolling in, changing their shapes. Within minutes sights change and not one scene lasts too long.

Looking up I see tree branches, heavy with leaves and fruits. I notice the shade the roofs of the trees give to the earth, and how the branches spread, creating an ever flowing arterial mosaic.

Facing straight I see fresh new leaves. Looking even more closely I see insects caring on with their lives, belonging.

Life down below is interesting as well. This is where flowers live, grass grows and rain drops fall on.

Enjoy your Friday, and link-up if you like.  I hope you enjoyed my contribution. I wish you all a happy weekend ahead.

My Images Were Sold!

I'm very excited to share with you something that happened recently. I was contacted by a friend of mine, who told me that the United Nations Environment Programme was working together with the Forestry and Environmental Action to create a charity sale of photographs, where all the proceeds would go into the reconstruction of a kindergarden in the city of Maglaj in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was recently destroyed by the floods in Bosnia.

The sale was held in the Austrian Embassy in Sarajevo on June 5th. I was not able to attend but I was sent some images from the sale, to show to you here. I was also told that my images were the first to be sold. :)

Here are the images that got sold:

Here are a couple of images from the sale:

My four images:

I was glad to be able to participate in this charity sale, and gladly gave my images to be sold. I don't really sell my images, mostly because photography is a hobby of mine and not my source of income, but it was nice to be able to help and I hope that the proceeds raised on this day helped the reconstruction of the kindergarden.

Thank you all for stopping by. Have a great Sunday. I'm double excited because my country is participating in the World Cup 2014, and tonight is the first game! The whole country is up and ready for the game and I want to wish our team the best of luck. It really is a huge accomplishment to get into the World Cup at all, so whatever happens everyone is very proud already. And Beni is ready too...
