Reflections on the Jablanica Lake

<b>During a recent drive I stopped by the <i>Jablanica Lake</i> to take some images of the reflecting scenery in the lake. </b>The sky was menacing and grey the whole day, but in this particular spot the clouds parted and the sun gave some great light to the landscape.</div>

Jablanica Lake is one of the biggest lakes in Herzegovina. It's shape changes constantly. In this spot it's very narrow, but in others quite wast.</div>

The Battle of the River Neretva

<b>Today I will show you a historical monument of an important World War II Battle that went on in these regions.</b> In World War II, the so called <b>Case Whit</b>e, also known as the <b>Fourth Enemy Offensive</b>, was a combined Axis strategic offensive launched against the Yugoslav Partisans (The National Liberation Army of Yugoslavia).</div>

Since its final stage took place on the <a href="http://mersad-photography.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-river-neretva-weekend-post.html" target="_blank">Neretva Rive</a>r, the operation was known in Yugoslavia as the <b>Battle of the Neretva</b>, or as the <b>Battle for the Wounded.</b> In today's post we will visit one of the most important places of this battle, which nowadays is a national monument.<b><br /></b></div>

The Axis (nations that fought in the World War II against the Allied forces) operation prompted the Partisans, with Tito in the lead, for the drive toward eastern Herzegovina.</div>

In order to do this, Tito formed the so-called Main Operational Group,  which eventually succeeded in forcing its way across the Neretva in  mid-March 1943, after a series of dramatic battles with various hostile  formations.</div>

Yesterday I went on another short trip, and while on my drive, I passed the Grabovica lake. </div>

A Lazy Summer Afternoon in the Woods

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>The summer heat is not escaping anywhere soon in the southern parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. </b>While on a recent trip I snapped these images of the woods and small river Sanica, close by to our mountain cottage. It seems like this is the only place to escape to these days, where the nights are not warm. Mostar has very hot nights, and sleeping in air conditioned rooms (while necessary) is tiring after a while. I really love bringing Beni here since I can let him off his leash. He loves to roam about and I feel pretty safe letting him go. Of course I'm always with him. In the image below you will see firewood being prepared. To each its own I say. There is not much else to do here. After I cleaned Beni up, we return to the cottage where he falls asleep for a bit until waking up and wanting more action. When the sun sets here, it's quite nice to be outside. But before that I'm always breaking in sweat. Driving Down the Neretva River Canyon

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>The Neretva River Canyon is in my opinion one of the most picturesque river canyons in the Balkan.</b> Driving down the M-17 road from Jablanica to Mostar will give you great sights to take in. I'm driving this road constantly, when we <a href="http://www.mersad-photography.blogspot.com/2015/07/evening-at-our-mountain-cottage.html" target="_blank"><u>visit out Mountain Cottage</u></a>, but I never really stop on the side of the road to take pictures. Here you can see the long road leading into the distance, as well as a few tunnels that are piercing the cliffs in order to make a path for it.
